Thirty-two teams, five rounds, thirty-one matches, one champion. The 32 bracket is where tournaments start feeling like events — and where running it on a whiteboard stops being fun. This tool generates the full bracket in seconds, printable and live-updating.
32 teams · 5 rounds · 31 matches
Five rounds: round of 32 (16 matches), round of 16 (8), quarterfinals (4), semifinals (2), final (1). Thirty-one matches total — in any single elimination bracket, matches = teams − 1, because every match eliminates exactly one team and all but the champion get eliminated.
Anywhere from 17 to 32 entries wants this bracket. Enter the field you have — the tool assigns first-round byes to the top seeds automatically. With 24 teams, the top 8 seeds skip the first round; with 20, the top 12 do. The math: byes = 32 − entries, awarded from the top seed down. That is the standard approach in every sanctioned sport, because the bye is the reward for seeding high.
The first round is half the whole tournament (16 of 31 matches) — budget accordingly. With four courts/fields/tables running 30-minute matches, the round of 32 takes about two hours and the whole event fits a long day. With one playing surface, a 32 bracket is a multi-day or multi-week affair; the live link earns its keep there, since nobody re-prints a wall bracket every week.
Match count per surface per hour × hours available ≥ 31, or cut the field to 16.
